roof rack installation 200 1990

Hi. I unscrewed a roof rack from a junkyard Volvo. It came out simply, like taking a screw out of wood. I've got the rack, screws and rubber "gaskets." To install on my wagon, do I just screw directly into the roof? Thanks. MM
