URGENT!!! Car died, won't restart S90-V90 1998

My '98 S90 died today just after I parked it in a parking lot. I parked the car and then when I tried to restart it again a few seconds later it refused. There were no juice at all. Lights did not come on, door locks were not working, engine did not turn, transmission was locked up in P position and I was unable to move it from there. I was turning the key but nothing was happening! It was completely dead. My first thought was the battery, of course. (Though I thought it would be extremely unusual for a battery to go from absolutely normal to absolutely dead in a matter of seconds.) Luckily, I was not that far from home. I brought my other other car and tried to jump start my Volvo. The car still refused to start. But now it was showing some signs of life. Lights were on, door locks were working, and the car made some noises when trying to turn the engine. It almost looked like the engine was turning maybe 1/4 or 1/2 turns and then the car simply produced the stuttering noise. I waited few minutes hoping to charge the battery a little bit, but the result was still the same: engine turns a fraction of a turn and then all I get is stuttering noise. Also, after I disconnected jump cables from working engine, my Volvo was again completely dead: engine would not turn at all and no noise from the engine at all. I checked the fuses and they appeared to be fine. Oil level and coolant are nornal too. What had happened to my car? Where do I go from there?
