I have a 1992 240 with 100k Miles, Auto Transmission.
I took the car in and tried to have the shift lock solenoid replaced - the diagnosis came thanks to past postings. The shifter was making a click or pop sound when moving from Park to Reverse.
I took the car to an all purpose mechanic with no Volvo expertise. I have been able to trust them in the past - showing them print outs from the brickboard archives always helps.
Anyway, they did not understand my request about the solenoid and now there is a sort of spark that happens - usually only once when the car is first taken out - when you move the shifter from park to reverse. It was not happening when I took the car in, they noticed it and said that they tried to lubricate the shifter. and that a slight contact was being made and probably it was harmless.
Well, now I am not too keen on giving them another chance. What could this spark be? How complicated is to replace the solenoid. How long can I wait before taking it to my long trusted mechanic who is 2 hours away?
Thanks!
