I think it's time I sorted out why I can't get a decent charge into my battery. My alt does seem to work as I can drive it hundereds of miles with the lights on with a totally flat battery, but the system is running below 12 volts.
The Haynes manual very helpfully tells me that the alternator or voltage regulator may be responsible (!duh). How does one test an external voltage regulator (the silver box on the fenderwall). I've finally given in and bought a cheap multimeter, where should I go about sticking it. The alternators was rebuilt a few weeks ago, and I'm inclined to think the problem lies elsewhere.
Any advice would be helpful. I'm tired of having to carry a spare battery in the back to jumpstart the car every time I stop.
