In my unrelenting desire to have spares for my 67 2 door, I recently bought and removed a rear end, complete with trailing arms and drums for $40. Right drum was so bound/rusted to shoes that I had undo the nuts holding the adjuster to get the drum off. But it did come off. Love that Proto puller. Before deciding to purchse this thing I decided that I had to get the drums to turn. I also pulled the inspection cover. Some 90 weight, not much, drained out along with a little water.(where'd that come from?) Gears looked alright, but then, I don't really know what I was looking for. I didn't see or feel any metal in the oil. The seal had leaked at some point as there was much dirt/oil caked onto the housing. Scraped most off and thought to pressure wash and repaint.
So I'm looking for advice as to how to clean the internals, check for play, worn bearings - generally determine it's condition and recondition as necessary (pinion seal for sure) and get it in shape for the day when.....
It's a 67 (4.10:1), with the oddball expensive Metalastic bushings.
