No Oil Level On Dip Stick 900 1995

Hello to all the Board,
Recently I realized that checking the dip stick on my 1995 960, shows no oil in the pan, but when I start the engine, it shows the oil level. Is this a common thing or is there a problem with the oil flow. Also does anyone have a photo or diagram of the timing belt and pulleys settings markings and the procedures?
