Well, finally. I haven't been around for a while because I've been busy with lots of projects. I finally got our 82 245T on the road, legal and everything.
The car has received a new dashboard (from a blue 87) and a heater fan. Love converting the old heater boxes for the newer fan motors. Fun fun. Anyway got it all back together successfully and just have a few issues to take care of. The only thing that didn't work is one light in one gauge.
Well, I guess the speedo cable is a littel screwed up too, perhaps it lost part of the end, since it clicks and reads quite low. Not sure it was ok before however.
I did rip out a nightmare of large wiring in the dash- someone installed an ammeter, with 20 feet of 10-ga red wire running to the battery, the alternator wire, the starter terminal, and the junction block behind the battery. It was probably THIS close to starting a fire in the dash- all melted to the point the copper nuts were bright red and oxidized. Not too cool but all back to stock now.
So far I've kept the cool stock turbo gauge package- 5-bar oil, boost, voltmeter, and small clock. I may rearrange since my wife REALLY wants a CD player up top. I hate to do it, but the whole thing is a plug in, and I can change things around to still keep the important gauges. WE'll see.
Since it's a M46 trans, a CD down low is a poor option. Maybe a changer? Hmmmm.
I still have to deal with a front suspension rebuild, and a bit of cold-start stumbling, but of course thats normal stuff for these. At this point it's a fast fun car that goes straight down the road. A new clutch cable is going to make life with it a whole lot happier too... already picked one up (thanks FCP).
I'll keep you updated as it progresses....
