I need suggestions and advices on a used 86 245DL purchased recently.
The car's body and the interior are in good to very good shapes. But the engine compartment is a mess.
The car had not been driven for 2 years. After I bought it and towed it home, I replaced the bad AMM with the one from my other running 86 245DL and it started right up. (Thanks for the suggestion from a fellow brickboarder). But I was not happy. After going through the entire car, I determine that it may not be worthwhile to keep it since there are many problems with the car. Here is the list of the problems that I found.
- Butchered electrical wiring/system - 3M electrical tapes on wires, dangling relays, bandaged battery cables, etc... Obviously the work of repair shops not familiar with Volvo.
- AT overdrive is always ON. No relay clicking sound when the button is pressed. (Maybe caused by the butchered electrical wiring or system)
- Axle pipe (exhaust) has a hole.
- Engine mounts are shot.
- One back up lens and one turn signal lens are broken.
- A/C does not work
I paid $300 for the car and now have second thoughts about keeping it. I am busy with other projects and do not have a lot of time to spend on this car. Two choices: 1) Parting out - lots of good parts (engine, AT, body parts, electrical components, and so on) 2) Sell it for $300.
I need inputs since I have never parted out a car before. What if someone takes the engine and AT, how do I dispose it afterwards? Anyone in northern CA (in San Jose area) wants to buy a good used 245DL that needs some work for $300?
