Hello all,

My m40 has finally bit the dust. The output shaft has a good 1/2" plus of up and down play. It instantly pukes all the fluid, and makes a nasty metal scraping noise when the clutch is released in neutral. It still made it to work though. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It needs to last till the weekend.

I have a J-type m41and a driveshaft from the 140 wagon in my garage. I would like to use the driveshaft from the 140 to get the larger u-joints and shaft. That way the m41 flange will be correct for the driveshaft. I won't bother asking about lengths. I will be sure to measure.

In order to get the new shaft to bolt to my current rearend, i will have to change the companion flange on the pinion to the larger size. Will the flange from any other models fit my 120's rearend? My local driveline shop wants $100 just for the flange and another $120 for the shortening and balance the shaft. Do the flanges from the 140 or 240's have the same spline count/size to work with the 120 rear? I'd much rather use junkyard parts than pay out my ass.

The center bearing should work fine with a little modification.

Any part #'s, measurements, or other information is greatly appreciated.
