second problem - wiring 200

i was attending to a front crank seal when i noticed that the wiring that runs to my alternator is rotting away. the hot (big red) wire is fine, but the other 2 have the casing rotting. what do these wires do? there are 2 other wires that are fine that go from my distributor to the other side of the engine. then there is a wire that seems to go nowhere. uh oh.
