Adjusting the Odometer 200 1989

Believe it or not, I want to adjust the odometer up in miles.

I bought a Volvo with 312,000 miles on it. The odometer doesn't work (the speedometer does) so I took it out of the car to replace the gear.

I have the official mileage on the car title so I just want to adjust the Miles to match the official tally. Currently the mileage shows 197,928 miles... I need to know if I can take it apart while I have it out of the car and adjust the mileage?
