1989 760 v 6 runs but not over 40 mph 700 1989

89 760 v 6 idles fine, runs ok, then starts to run raggedy and stops..
sits for a few minutes then restarts and then same thing.
173k on car any help as to how to fix this? parts in order of importance would be helpful.
