Bypass valve loud buzzing 700 1986

Have 1986 740 Turbo. Today the bypass valve started to make loud buzzing noise, I loosened adjustment on top of valve & noise has changed from loud buzz to hum. What does this symptom mean? Can I ignore it? Should I replace unit?
