Ring gear and flywheel B18/B20 1800

I measured the ring gear on my spare B18 and it is 1/2 inch wide. The ring gear I had pulled from a B20, and whcih I was going to use, is 3/8 inch wide. Both engines' ring gear and flywheel assembies are the sqame overall thicknesses. Was the B18 manufactured with a thicker ring gear, or is the 3/8 one I have an aftermarket replacement?
