After almost a year of local driving, I have finally tested my PCV/oil consumption remedy on a long highway trip. Unfortunately the results are not as conclusive as I had hoped. The trip consisted of a journey to the northeast using I-77, I-84,I-78, and I-95. After 870 miles each way I had used a half a quart of Mobil 1 for a total usage of one quart. From the condition of the plugs, rear window, tailgate, and the undercarriage it appears that most of the oil leaked out the rear engine seal. This was my original speculation a year ago that I had hoped that the PCV valve in the small hose from the intake manifold to the breather splitter would alleviate. It does not appear to be so. While around town this PCV addition cut my oil consumption to nil it seems to resume when a constant 75 mph is maintained on Interstate travel.
