Quick v-belt question, need answer tonight!! please =)

My a/c is starting to squeel really bad because I think its lost its lubrication. I don't really need to use it till summer anyways so....I was going to disconnect its drive belt. Is this OK to do? Also can the volvo engineers get away with omitting the vibration dampner? I thought all engines needed this. Thanks dudes!
