Vibration dampener....

On the b23 and older engines, the job of dampening crankshaft vibrations is done by the flywheel. It is heavier than the newer ones. To lessen weight they changed to a flexplate (autobox cars) and put the dampener on the front of the crankshaft. Thus your engine has a vibration dampener.

The belt disconnect is your option. No belt = no P/S. Belt = noise.
