speedometer and AOD question 90 740 700

my 90 740 (non turbo) speedometer doesnt work i changed it out with a cluster unit I knew was good and it to does not work ,also my overdrive doesnt
work I checked the relay and resoldered the pins, could the 2 problems be related ? is ther any conection to the kick down cable ? it does have passing gear by the way it is a auto trans
