so a couple of years ago I was given a 1980 244 diesel, the VW diesel engine that powered the car could be at best described as dissapointing.
I had serviced this car for a year or so, and my first incounter with it was almost as much of a let down as my first incounter with a b27, the engine was extremly underpowered so it was no surprize to me that the car was given to me.
this year I decided to salvage the old car by putting a rebuilt b20 into it, and guess what? It has faught me all the way. first of all the only transmission that i have for a b20 is a m40 which dosent have overdrive. I have a m410 in my 1800 es parts car but since the frame is, well... not there i cant lift the car to remove it. i have at least 10 240 manual transmissions but unless i want to have b20 slant-4 engine, with SU side-draft turned down-draft carburators that is'nt an option either. I know that in '75 the 240 engine was a b20 but i dont know what transmission it had. is it possible to take the bellhousing off a 75 trans. and put it on a modern one, if not does anyone have a solution, i need to end this project, and i dont want to see this restored 1980 go to the junkyard.
