RPM sensor? 700

Draining coolant recently from block and noticed a sensor bolted to bell housing.

I first thought of crank position sensor but then I read (FAQ) this is not on LH 2.2

Is it RPM sensor? The wire leads to a plug that is capped off on top of valve cover so it's not feeding to anything.
