car sputtering only at STOP-GO only 200 1990

SO now my 240dl is sputtering at almost most stop & go's. if it is running .. no problem. I stop te car at a light, then when I press the gas, the car like doesn't want to move, rpm starts going up and the car then suddenly jerks forwards and then moves fine. Benn doing this for a week .
Any suggestions? I initially thought it was the o2 sensor, but I highly doubt it as it runs smooth once it is moving!
Thanks a lot for any thoughts.
