Need advice from all V90/960 owners.
I currently have a 245 and a 745 (both NA) with 191K and 133K miles, respectively. I am considering purchasing one of the following:
-a two owner '88 745T with 144K miles that's listed for $ 3950. This car is at Autoshop Import Store in Albuquerque, NM.
-a one owner '95 965 with 92K miles that's that's listed for $ 8995 at the Volvo Center in San Antonio
-a one owner '97 965 with 89K miles that's also listed for $ 8995 from Downunder Auto Sales in Austin.
All of the cars appear to be in good shape and come with 90 day warranties. Are these prices good? I am aware of the "issues" with the 960/V90 line and have made sure that both of the cars had the timing belt changed at 70K. The 95 suffers from some door covering puckering but the 97 looks very clean.
I keep cars for a long time (my wife drives a '95 944) and have a good Volvo dealership in town (they match any price I comein with for OEM parts) and do good repair work. I also have a good inde that has done most of the work on my cars for the past 3 years. I want this car to last 10 years (about another 80-110K miles mostly city but I don't hesitate to drive cross country as I keep the mechanicals up on my cars and am learning how to do some work myself).
I have read the various arguments for and against the 960/V90 cars but to be frank am ready to get this vehicle (or a BMW 5 series wagon) as my "mid-life crisis" toy and so I can let my sone drive the 740 (it handles so much better that the 245) and donate the 245 to a needy family (the car's paint is ugly but there are no big dents and the mechanicals are perfect as I have already done the AC, suspension, etc. repairs that are necessary at 125-150K miles).
So...what do you folks think? Should I go for the 745 or "step up" into the 965? What should I pay for either?
Look fwd to receiving your advice!
Dave
