I've yet to experience an ign sw failer on Volvo, but I've had to replace a few for others.
My wife was driving her car to work this am and in the middle of a bridge (she JUST now bothered to tell me this) everthing went. All cluster zeroed, engine dead, the whole bit. Same as if it were switched off.
After pulling over, the car restarted and ran fine. She went on to work and back this eve with no such trouble.
Sound to you like she's got an IGN SW headed south?
I've got plenty spares & I'm going to go ahead and replace it.
She's also having another issue. Not stall issue, idle is great, and power is good. When you accelerate, there are dead spots in the accel. As you might guess, I just found this out. Been going on for months by her account.
I'm going to replace all her vac lines this weekend (never have and should have by now). I've never even checked for injector or intake leaks on her car (lazy me), so going to do a full leak test after new vac lines installed.
AMM is fairly new and known good
O2 was replaced a couple months ago when I replaced her cat.
Recent rotor, cap, wires and plugs
induction ducting is all in excellent shape (made them replace them all b4 I bought the car)
Injectors were cleaned when we bought the car (but they could have put the same used o-rings back on for all I know)
Flame trap and box cleaned every 4th oil change
PWR stage was cleaned, thermaled and remounted maybe a month ago when I did mine
FPR is fairly new and known good
Fuel filter fairly new
New wiring harness
Haven't ever cleaned the TB on hers, plan to asap
Ditto on the IAC, slated to do that with TB clean
Don't know anything bout her distributor (other than timing is in), cap done by her brother when I was OTR
