just replaced starter on 1985 740gle,..2 bollts,wire connections,sweat..the bottom bolt,i accessed from under the car and was relatively easy, the top bolt was frozen and after using a 32'' extension or shorter could not free it up..broke 2 socket swivels trying w/nutbuster spray..got on top of motor and placed a 19mm boxend wrench on bolt..back under the car I put my'' BIG'' neighbor and he pulled down and YEESSS!!! OUT IT CAME AND IN WENT THE NEW CHEAPER ,SMALLER STARTER!!! 50 BUCKS AT THE JUNKYARD. 10 MINUTES LATER I WAS RUNNING.try to get the same size starterits more robust and doesnt work as hard.
