1800ES conversion to Mustang 5.0 drivetrain 1800

I have owned a 73 1800ES for the past 18 years (second owner, paid $3400 in 86). It was an very dependable daily driver for the first 10 years, graduated to a "weekend only" classic for 5 years, and now is on blocks in a garage, not having been run for the past 3 years (have other classic projects taking up too much time). The body is in very good condition as is the glass and interior. I thought of selling it but people do want want to give me anything close to what I think it is worth ($5-7K). Maybe I am unrealistic or the market is too small. I recently came up with the idea of converting the motor, transmission, and rear end to a high performance Mustang 5.0 setup. Suspension and brakes and steering would be converted to aftermarket high performance components. The body style is just too beautiful to part with, so I a considering this custom conversion project. It seems this would turn a classic beauty into a high performance "sleeper" that would be just awesome to drive. I would like to know if anyone has tried this type of conversion before? Please feel free to email me with any information or experiances.

Thanks, Bob
