you might consider just.... 1800

getting the engine rebuilt and affixing a turbo. i'm thinking it might be a little cheaper, but you would get most of the benefits of the ford engine. in reality, your probably wouldn't use all that ford power very often. with the existing drive train and an updated suspension, you wouldn't be "going where no man has gone before" (weight&balance, handling), and you would still have a formidable 'sleeper'. and the end result might very well have a market value significantly higher than the ford configuration. the 1800es doen't have much appeal other than the 'old volvo' folks and we mostly like to conform the old ways.
