Unexpected Power Gain...(exhaust)...84 B23 200 1984

I replaced the header pipe on my 84 245 today. When I layed the old and new side by side, I noticed the new pipe was different.

The new pipe cut down from two pipes to one, 12"s sooner than the old one did, making the collector portion about 24"s before it reaches the end flange.

This design change has done wonders for my throttle response and low end torque.

I always wondered why this car never could compare to the wifes 87, or the sons 92. I searched for years trying to find what was holding this car back.

I had given up, and was even thinking of upgrading to a later model. I thought maybe it was due to heavier internal parts on the B23 or some improved F.I. function on the B230.

This pipe clearly does a far better job of scavenging the exhaust, and creating less backpressure.

I got this pipe from FCP Groton, It is listed to fit 84-90 part #840-101 A&B Auto Parts. The pipe I recieved was tagged BOSAL, so I don't know if the A&B part has the same dimensions or not.

I don't know what year the change was made, 85 or 86, but the wifes 87 has this updated pipe. If you have the old design, you might want to look into a new pipe. This thing is great.
