One more injector seal replacement question.....please 200 1986

The other day I posted about replacing the seals on my fuel injectors with OEM Volvo parts. The 700/900 archive gave me the instructions I needed except for one thing. What is the little gray seal/spacer thing for? I never saw any comment about what that's for.
