Well I bought a '74 164E to go with my 122 and 440. I can't get the 440 away from my wife and the 122 is really too good to be a daily driver so I needed something to give the 122 a rest from time to time. The 164 had travelled a great distance 383,000 klms. but it has a recently rebuilt B30 and was coverted to LPG so, as the price was right, I snapped it up. To my surprise. I haven't found many problems except for the brakes and a noisy BW35. I hated the dogem car bumpers so I converted the bumpers & grill to the more stylish early model and ,in doing this, had to open up the front brake lines as they are attached to the bumper brackets. Once I bled them, the front brake lines promptly blocked and locked the front brakes on. I replaced the lines and all was good for about 3 days until the master cylinder gave up too. A new one fixed the problem but the brakes still feel soft in comparison to the 122 and don't stop half as well. I'm sure that I got all the air out of the system and the pedal doesn't "pump up". I did notice when bleeding that fluid wasn't all that free flowing from the rear calipers. More of a trickle compared to the front. Just wondering if the rear lines could be toast too ! Could this make my pedal soft ?
