Since my AW transmission is failing, I'm considering replacing it with a manual instead of another automatic. From what I read, the swap looks easy. I've never driven a RWD volvo with a manual trans but I imagine it must be nice. Better acceleration, better fuel economy, etc... I'm wondering a few things though. Is the hydraulic clutch heavy to operate or easy to press down (I get stuck in traffic often, this is a big concern). And which transmission came out of a late model 740 turbo? M46, M47?
Lastly I'm wondering how this will affect the resale value of the car? The way I see it it can go either way. Manual transmissions are less desirable, but I can imagine a volvo enthusiast being interested since it's rare to have a 5-speed in a 940. What do you guys think?
