Locating Pressure leak in 740 Turbo - Actuator Diaphragm 700 1987

Volvoists,

I am still troubleshooting a Turbo Performance issue with my 87 B230FT with a Garret Turbo configuration.

I think I have narrowed down the source of loss of Turbo pressure.

My question is

What if I disconnected the connection to the Wastegate actuator pressure and plugged the hose off coming from the Turbo Body. I am pretty sure the diaphragm in the sealed can is the source of the leak.

I would think that if this is disconnected and plugged, so the hose from the Turbo would not leak, the excess pressure would not open the wastegate at it's spec'd pressure of 6.8 to 7.7 psi and the turbo would really pressurize like mad. This is what I am hoping will happe. It's obvious I won't go out and wail on the turbo, I just want to see if the Turbo holds pressure by taking the diaphragm out of the circuit.

Or if any else has had experience with the symptoms of a torn or blown diaphragm inside that sealed can and rod type waste gate actuator, I am all ears.

Thanks in advance !!
