So yeah, how're you all doin?
This past weekend us OVTers had an AWESOME weekend at Peter's "The V Shop" in Portland. Here are some PICTURES from the day. I got my dwell adjusted and my valves adjusted. Sounds and felt good, well, as good as it can anyway. The carbs need yet more playing with if I want them to be perfect, and my choke situation doesn't help that at all because I can't fully engage or fully disengage it without doing it by hand underneath the hood. Makes for fun running and starting in this cold weather... NOT.
Here's another thing that I did this past weekend! SEAFOAM! You all know, or should know about the water method, where you run the engine up to about 3k rpms and slowly pour water into the carb's throat and let it clean up some of the carbon in the cylinders... So, after a huge and successful thread on Turbobricks about the Seafoam stuff, I decided to do the water treatment again(previously, I hadn't noticed much if any improvement from doing it), and then follow it up with Seafoam the same way. After doing this, WOAH! Car runs smoother, and DOESN'T PING at 10 deg. advance! So, I tried out 14 degrees, and the car is still not pinging! This is on a b20b running premium gas, I am VERY glad that I can run more advance now and not have issues. The car is running great, I just need to fiddle with the carbs some more, but I'll wait until the weather warms up a bit and stabilizes...
I will be trying out the small 10" electric fan I pulled off of a junk yard Mazda 626 sometime soon here, see how well that takes care of cooling at stop lights and in traffic. I think it should be sufficent now that my car doesn't ping when warm anymore, and it's still cold weather here. In the summer I might need to upgrade to something a bit bigger though.
So with the e-fan on there, an oil change, and a removal of everything in the trunk(engine, plus other stuff) and stripping basically the whole car, I think I can manage a high 16 second run at the drag strip this year... Without doing any engine work...(well, I'm planning on running some octane booster and turning up the advance a decent amount... =D ) It feels THAT strong.
Also, I'm going to be looking into getting a new rear end gearset put in, 3.73 style, and hopefully with an LSD... I was thinking that for this summer I will be getting these beautiful and lightweight 16x7 Enkei wheels that are reasonably cheap:

But I don't really have the money to spend on them. I don't have any money, I have negative money, that's why i'm selling THIS STUFF. And I have a bunch of other stuff to sell too, but that's that for now. So, the plan of getting these wheels has been dropped, and instead, for now anyway, I will look into getting a numerically higher rear end, an LSD, and what not so I can keep running 15" wheels and not have such a tall tire sidewall. The wheels that I will be using will be the 10 spoke 700 series 15x6" alloy wheels, with 205/60/15(or if i get a different rear end, some 205/55/15s) BFGoodrich G-Force Sports. And then on top of that, when I want to "cruise" I can put my current "stock" tires/wheels back on the car and not have to drive around at 4k+ rpms on the highway(yes I know my speedometer will read low...)
Whatcha think? I'm planning on going out to the track to drag race and to have some fun on the WHOLE track this year... I need wheels and tires before I go to the track though, my current tires are old and cracking... Not safe for track use, or road use so much for that matter.
If I had a job, I would just go for the 16x7s right now. But I don't. Maybe next year...
So what have you all been up to? =D
