Water cleaning to remove carbon? Done it?

I have an '86 760T. Used to run great. Gradually got worse. Had it tuned up a short while back, including tuning the LH params. New timing belt, plugs, wires, clean throttle body, fuel filter, yada yada.

On the highway, under load, it occasionally stumbles. Idles fine. I'm thinking carbon buildup?

I want to try the water technique, but I don't want to do it if it's going to hurt the turbo, which is in great shape. Car only has 160K. Has anyone done this, with any success?
