I want lights that shut of and on with the car. Would this work? 200 1983

I was thinking that I would like the headlights on my 83 240 turbo to go on and off with the ignition like the ones on my 88 240. was thinking of simply unpluging the light wire from the always hot fuse and placing it in a swithed fuse. I heard sometimes you have to repalce the light switch, I have one from an 86 240 sitting around, would this work? Do I need to change the switch? If this would work, what would be the need for IPD's day time running light kit? Is my idea safe?
