1992 960 with bad engine Shudder- Help 900

My 960 was running very smooth until yesterday morning I got 5 miles from the house when the motor started running very rough. There was no "check engine" light but I got a 2-1-4 code for RPM sensor failure. Alldata said symtom was rough running. I replaced it today and no change.

I checked the timing belt and it seems to have jumped a tooth or two. Would that cause rough running? What would cause it to jump. I just replaced it 10K ago.
