Tachometer goes much higher than usual before transmission will shift 700

So I just had a new exhaust system from the cat to the tailpipe installed at my local shop. As I'm driving home I notice that the tachometer is going way up past where it normally shifts to 2nd and 3rd gears. It goes up to around 4000 RPM to shift to second, and almost 4500 before it will go into third. I'm concerned. I am due for transmission service (filter, flush) in two months, but I had not previously experienced any problems with the transmission before. The car always ran very strong, and shifted smoothly, and now all of a sudden ... this.

Any and all ideas greatly appreciated.
