What is the attraction? Blower Fan inop. 200

After finding out that the blower fan is a common problem with bricks and the book pays six hours for the job (so it will take me TWELVE), I have to ask why? What's the attraction to Volvos? I love my '92 245, but between all of the quirks (wiring shorting out in the tailgate hinge, leaky headlamp modules, weeping water pump, A/C inop. etc.), I cannot see what the loyalty factor is. Do Volvos really run forever? Wouldn't anything if you kept dumping money into it? Maybe it's the late 1970s interior appointments and all of the power of a Chevy Vega automatic. Okay, got THAT off my chest. (I feel the same way about my old Beetles sometimes!)

Finally, on to my questions. I had NO noise before the blower quit working. I started the car, turned the blower fan off, it had been running. After the vehicle warmed, I turned the blower switch back on but nothing happened!

The fuse and the contacts are clean. I took enough of the dash apart to find that I am getting juice to the wire (white/brown?) on the switch socket. Is there a way to jump those plugs to the others to see if the switch is bad. I tried with one wire going from the hot wire to each of the others, but nothing. Do I have to use two wires going to other sockets to bypass the switch? Does anyone know what I am talking about? Anyone? Anyone? I just need to know how to bypass the switch so I can rule that out. Rumor has it that the switch itself rarely goes bad, but I got none of the usual warning signs of the blower frying out. I REALLY don't look forward to ripping that out unless I have to, I'll wait for spring to do it. It was a balmy 4 degrees this morning, so I am past the part of the winter where I need a heater anyway!

I appreciate any help, I am just a little frustrated as electronics and dismantling dashes was never one of my strong areas! And I DO genuinely LOVE my 245!
