A/C compressor removal & installation and R-134A conversion on 245GLT 200

Hi guys,

My compressor's gone ka-put on my '84 245GLT. Clutch seems to be okay. Autozone sells a rebuilt compressor w/o clutch for $128. I'm thinking about buying it and installing it myself.

I'm not exactly a beginner but I'm no pro either. I've managed to install Boge turbo stuts & shocks, rear overload coils, main fuel pump, brake junction box (a real pain in the neck by the way), front calipers & rotors, brake pads...well, you get the picture. BUT, I've never done a compressor before and my trusty Bentley Guide doesn't have anything on it so I don't know where to turn.

I brought the car to Pep Boys to be tested and there's no leaks but the compressor's really noisey and leaking some oil. I'm thinking I can do the job myself and purchase an R-134A conversion kit for $39 and make the conversion while I'm at it.

The system was evacuated a while back and Pep Boys recently filled it with air I guess in order to run the pressure/leak tests.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason
