My waterpump was weeping from the top seal, so I removed it and replaced all seals. I checked the FAQ to make sure I wasn't skipping anything. Steps 13 and 14 under the water pump section: http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/Cooling.htm#Water_Pump says to torque the bolts and nuts to 11-15 ft-lbs. My torque wrench is calibrated in in-lbs and Nenwton-meters, so I converted 13 ft-lbs to 17 N*m, and promptly stripped threads and stretched bolts. The bolts and studs on my car are M6, and their torque limit according to http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/Metric-Recommended-Torque.aspx is 12 N*m. Is this an error in the instructions? Should it say 11-15 N*m instead?
