I have a cam rack. Trying to replace inner tie rod ends. I've got the inner tie rod disconnected from the outer tie rod end. Boot is off. The new inner tie rod simply looks like it would screw directly into the female end of the rack. According to others...there is supposed to be some sort of "peen" to keep the inner tie rod from coming unscrewed from the female end of the rack. I don't see it.
Here's the other problem. I have a vice grip on the body of the inner tie rod ball joint and I COULD put some torque on it to get it loosened from the female end of the rack, but I'm scared I'll damage the rack. So..I put a large crescent wrench onto the flattened portion of the rack gear...but I'm still not sure if I can put a lot of pressure to unscrew because of this darn "peen" thing that I don't even see.
Gimme a hand here. Thanks,
