hello. the brick is driving me crazy. recently the belts were shot. so i went to my local import mechanic. he only had one belt, and he told me the alternator could run just fine off of one belt. ... the belt began to squeal at this point, i believe the next day. then i took the car back, a motor mount was broken, and the engine was lopsided, and the belts were still squealing. he said the belts were squealing because the motor was leaning on the belts and such. he charged me to "tighten all belts" as well. the squealing did not stop. it lessened but this week burning rubber smell came from belts and finally the alternator stopped working. the belt appears to be in place still. i am wondering if the one belt instead of two deal threw everything off on the belt balancer thing and then damaged my alternator. i'm also having a separate problem (or it could also be related to this) i went through 3/4 tank of gas with only 105 miles. (the 02 sensor and fuel pressure regulator were replaced 2 years ago) so, what do you think the problem is, belt tension, the belt balancer thing, the alternator? do you think that the alternator problems happened because the one belt insted of two? thanks for your help. i always find brickboard members to be very helpful.
