Did anybody catch the episode of "two guys garage" in which they mount ans STS turbo charger on a camaro? INCREDIBLE HP increase and apparently it doesn't have any lag or extreme heat issues. I got interested so I looked-up the twoguysgarage.com website and found a link for the maufacturer of this product. It's a turbo, but instead of hooking up to the exhaust manifold on the motor it's run by exhaust gasses where the tailpipe terminates at the muffler---all the way AFT and under the car. The claims are that there is no lag due to the constant pressure and the size of the piping used to compensate for the almost 10 to 12 feet of extra exhaust piping. It's cooled by an oil line circuit fed from the block itself and the charged air is routed all the way back to the intake. The videos STS has on their website include some exhlerating runs on a brand new GTO, a camaro, and more importantly an ACura integra. The latter is important since it's a 4 cylinder, like most Volvos. The web site includes some under body photos of a prototype integra displayed at the recent SEMA show. They have videos of it dong amazing burnouts and drag pulls. It looks so simple that it might just work on any four cylinder. I guess what you pay for is the research that went into figuring what sized turbo, exhaust and intake piping, boost settings, and fuel map setups work bets on your particular car. PLease look at the aforementioned websites, play the videos, and tell me if you think this is feasible on a volvo. Personally, if the claims are true (and that might be stretch), and the detonation probs are KOSHER, then I imagine it would work on a stock turbo block MINUS the exhaust manifold given that it has the lower compression ratio. Even if you don't respond to my question check it out as I did. This system definately got my attention. Whats the catch?
