Immediate Help needed for a '90 740GL 700 1990

Someone PLEASE help me here. I did a tune up on my 740GL but the car won't start. It does attempt to start and then backfires. Someone said that perhaps I do not have the spark plug wires in the correct order. I did not mark the ones I took off and was under the assumption that they went on ranging from shortest to longest in order to reach the shortest spark plug to the farthest spark plug. Please help here before I just ax the vehicle. Thanks from a very short tempered person at this point.
