pulling the motor + tranny: up or down? 200 1985

Hi all,

I've come to the conclusion that my latest 240 acquisition isn't worth the effort to fix up, due to extensive body rust. On the other hand, the motor and tranny are in good shape, so I'd like to pull them before I scrap the car.

The question is: is it easier to separate them while in the car and then lift the motor up out of the engine bay, or to drop them down out of the engine bay and then separate them?

I've already removed the front struts and control arms, so it seems it would be (relatively) little effort to drop the main suspension beam and the transmission support, then lower the connected motor+tranny to the ground, and then separate them.

Any thoughts and suggestions?
