FWIW, my take on IPD bars on 140s... 140-160

Both of my 140s have KYB Gas A Just shocks, stock springs(as far as I know anyway), and the IPD front and rear swaybars. Did IPD make a smaller rear bar for wagons? I haven't looked closely at the wagon's install, so I don't know if it's the exact same as in my 142.

My opinions are, that in a stock sprung 140(2), the IPD rear 19mm bar is a bit excessive. Exit speed suffers greatly because you just can not put the power down. I've taken all the extra junk/parts out of my 142 recently and tossed them into the wagon, and since then have been having some fun... Yesterday I was going around a turn in second gear and gassed it on the way out and the inside rear just spun and spun and spun. I need a limited slip. But even then, rear traction will be limited because the car still wants to lift that rear inside tire.

Some things I think about:
-One of the old IPD 28mm bars would make for a more stable setup for stock springs, increase front roll stiffness just a bit more to reduce the inside rear tire's tendancy to lift.
-Using solid endlinks on the front swaybar, and using rubber instead of poly bushings on the rear bar, thus making the rear bar less effective, and the front bar more effective.
-Increasing the spring rates... When I put in stiffer springs, they will be able to overcome the stiffness of the swaybar a little more easily. So, when putting on stiffer springs, the rear bar will have a harder time lifting the inside rear tire, and the car will be more flat anyway from the stiffer springs, so it may make for a good combination...

So yes, on the street, or in autocrossing situations, with stock springs, I can definitely say that I would drive around without a rear bar on. I haven't experienced firsthand the 22 or 28mm front bars that IPD has once had available and what combinations I'd use, but for the street, I would not use a rear bar on a stock spring car. When I go stiffer springs(basically double stock rate in front and rear), I'll find out if it's balanced better enough to keep the inside rear tire and warrant keeping the rear bar on for autoxing and daily driving. I might look into getting some softer bushings for the rear bar, and/or just loosening the endlinks as it is, to make the bar slightly less effective. And actually, I'm only using three poly bushings per side in the rear because of some issues, so my 142's situation is a little more extreme than most others...
