removing the oil return hose 200 1991

is there a special way or a better way to get out the oil return hose? after taking off the oil trap i tried pulling it out with plyers but the rubber is so brittle it just keeps breaking off, so i thought maybe ill take off the oil pan and pull it down, but its kind of a hassle, any suggestions?
