B20A or B20B 1800

Ever since I got my 63 P1800 I had just assumed that it had the original B18 engine. Laying underneath it today I happened to look up at the side of the engine under the brake booster and in big letters on the engine block it says "Volvo B20". It just goes to show you that you should never assume anything with old cars.

The question I have is how do you tell if it is a B20A or A B20B? I want to set the valves, but I see in the Haynes manual the settings are different for each engine. If I read the engine number right it is 12 8196.

Thanks
