My 744 is getting quite annoying.
The problem is i need to crank my engine for 10-20 seconds to make it start.
When it begins to turn it coughs louder and louder until normal running. (This could be the flooding from excessive cranking?)
If recently run the engine usually starts in 2-4 turns with the starter.
If i just can get it to start i can drive my self tired and no apparent loss of power that i can discern. It uses lots of fuel though, 14 liters per 100km.
I have done some maintenance:
Changed both fuel filters.
Checked sparkplugs for damage.
Cables, dist-cap and rotor are changed within the last year.
Checked FIR, it pulls and has no cracks. i have the cap of for cooling.
Checked that both pumps run,(they do when the engine runs normally anyway)
Comp-test a few months ago. all cylinders within +-1.
All fuses are good that i can see.
I don't know how to diagnose this, it's so inconsistent. If i get totally no start and try to diagnose, the car will start by the time i have fetched my tools.
Edit: The rpm needle jumps a tinybit when cranking, not much but atleast not dead still.
