88 760 gas gauge 700

Since my wife has been driving the 760 lately, I have been a bit more concerned about the intermittent gas gauge. She told me the other day that by "thumping" the gauge with her finger, it would start reading. I tried it and, sure enough, the darn thing swung over to the right position. Since I have seen a few posts on the intermittent gas gauge problem, I thought that someone would be interested to know that mine is in the instrument cluster itself and not in the wiring at the tank. I just have to find a way to remove the thing without damage.

Regards,
