Hi all,

After many delays through the spring, I was finally ready to finish off the change of rear brake shoes/wheel cylinders on my '65 122.

Left side went well, no problems (once I had the right parts). Right side is not going so well, and this is the side with problems warranting the replacements in the first place.

I have a big sturdy home-made drum puller. It pulled off the left drum without much problems. But the right side i just can not get off. Knowing that it might take a significant amount of force, I've pounded the crap out of the puller. No go. I tried heating the drum (to make it expand around the axel), still nothing.

I'm at the end of the line here. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else to try?

I'm at the point where I would consider towing the car to a shop, but I'm not sure what they could do there that I'm not already trying at home, i.e. use heavy force.


On a side note: I'm not sure why, but PO has changed the rear brakes to take the later '66 shoes. It still has the manual '65 adjustment screw at the bottom but the shoes were clearly not the '65 ones. Olof at Vintage Imparts was kind enough to let me return the ones that didn't fit with the rest of the hardware. Besides the combination being somewhat strange, the kit seems to fit together well and I'm not worried about the function of it. It's just strange why they would choose to do so.
